Genton's Tool & Dye (closed now) was located on Hwy 1781 near what is now called Jackson Bottoms. This same area was called Barrers Bottom and Anderson Hollar at one time. The location is one-half mile north of Broughtontown School.

Johnny Simpson and sons, Chris and Donovan operated Simpson Tool & Dye from 1995 until 2020 along with S M S Tire business. They incorporated both business in 2002 and both are still in business, even being rebuilt after a fire destroyed the main building in 2022. It is located on Hwy 618 East near Dog Walk. information from Johnny and Brenda Simpson

Garage & used Cars and Parts

Joan and David Hammonds operates David’s Classic Cars located on Hwy 39 south near Flatwood School Road. It opened in 1978 and is still operating at the present. David also ran an excavating bull dozer and backhoe business. Cecil Brown and Graden Elder worked for him. Later, Cecil Brown ran his own backhoe service and Graden Elder and Bobby Taylor worked for Cecil.

Mr. Eddie Nickels ran a used Cars and Parts lot on Nickels Road, off Hwy 39 south. It is now closed .

Mr. Clarence ( STONEWALL ) Jackson was a used car and Parts dealer for over 40 years in the Broughtontown area. His business was located on Hwy 618 west at the lot at the corner of Harness
Ridge Road. Stonewall was my neighbor when I was growing up. He had Bobby Martin and me (Tony Todd) driving at 10 years old, helping move cars around on different lots. Stonewall was a trader. He went to Mount Sterling, KY every month to what was called “Court Days” back in the late 1950’s and early 60’s for trading. Now, its just once a year. He would take his son, Jr and Lonnie Martin and my dad, Homer Todd, with him to buy cars for all them to drive back. I went with them a few times. Later, I took him to London, KY and Scottsville, KY trading guns, knives and dogs once a month. Lots of other people would drive him trading, too.

Mr. Willie Smith and son, Bobby, ran a garage on Hwy 618 in the late 40’s and early 50’s located near what is now Tony and Kathy Middleton’s place.

Mr. Kenny Denney ran a used Cars and Parts lot from the late 1970’s until 2021 located on Watson Cemetery Road, off Hwy 618 west and a Roofing business for a number of years.

Mr. Edman Irvin ran a blacksmith Shop and Flour Mill grinding shop for a long time . Mr. Luke Irvin and his brother ran a shoe cobbler shop in the Broughtontown area. There was a Flour Mill next to J.R. Taylor’s store. Maybe someone will remember who ran it. Also, a Flour Mill next to Adam Perry’s farm. All were on
Hwy 1781 in the Broughtontown area.

James Middleton ran a Garage and wrecker service, James ran a Go cart Track for a few years in the 1980’s
and last a car round track on Friendship Church Road. James Middleton still runs a car lot on Jim Weaver Road.

Mr. Jack Blevins and son, Arlis Blevins, ran Garages on Jim Weaver Road for a few years.

Mr. Kenny Hodge ran a used Cars and Parts lot and wrecker service on Jim Weaver Road for a few years .

Mr. Ralph Hodge ran a Garage and his son, Mickey Hodge, still is in the Garage business today on Jim Weaver Road.

Mr. Howard Seagroves ran a used Cars and Parts lot on Chappel Gap School Road off Hwy 643.

Mr. Louie Jufer ran a Garage on Hwy 643 near Allen Road.

Mr. Vernon Hensley runs a car paint and mechanic shop at the present on Hwy 618 west.

Harvey Farris runs a Garage and Rowback service on the Brock Road at the present

Mr David Reynolds runs a Garage and small engine repair shop on Hwy 643 near Allen Road at the present.

Mr. Tim Brummett runs a Garage at the present on Plummer Road off 618 west.

Saw Mills – Feldman Brothers on the Frank Hoeck Road; Jim Middleton; James, Joe, and Jerry Middleton; Carl Brock and sons, C.W. and Earnest Brock; Jack Blevins; Curtis Blevins; Loren Sanders; Mike Genton; Thomas Simpson; Raymond and Raymond Jr. and Anthony Asher; Hubert Smith;, and Hershel Watson .

Les Todd – Worked for the Feldman Brothers

Bull Dozer and Backhoe operators in the Broughtontown area at one time : Francis Feldman, James Middleton, Ralph Reynolds, Tommy Reynolds, Kenny Denney, Bobby Martin, Loren Sanders, Ed Brock, Jimmy Noakes, Rickey Sowders, Artie Farris, Dilbert Greer, Cecil Brown, David Hammonds, Bobby Smith, Doug Smith, Charles Johnson, David Brummett and Wayne Elder and several other operators in the logging business.

Carl Brock, C.W. Brock and Earnest Brock had a well digging operation in the Broughtontown area.

BARBERS in the Broughtontown area: Luke Irvin, Edman Irvin, John Wren, Bill Jack Burdine, Boss Middleton, Rupert Killen, Wallace Brown and Vic Todd.

Mrs. Donna Burdine ran a Beauty Shop at her home on South 39 near the now Mennonite Church and School that is closed now. Dates of operation was mid 70’s and 80’s.

Shirle Brown ran a used Shoe Store on Hwy South 39 near the Mike Genton Road around 2000 and it is now closed.

Mrs. Irene Simpson ran a Ceramic Shop in her home on South Hwy 39 near now East Hwy 618 that closed about 1979.

Mrs. Mary Ann Adams ran a ceramic shop from the basement of her home on Hwy 39 South, between where Mount Zion Church of Christ and Twin Ponds Orchard are today in the 80’s and early 90’s. Her and her husband, Rodger, later sold this home and moved to a house with store on Hwy 1781, across from Broughtontown School and she continued running the ceramics shop for a few years in the store building on the property. It has since closed permanently.
